Kohberger Planned to Accuse Four Others of Idaho Murders

According to prosecutors, before Bryan Kohberger pled guilty to the murders of four University of Idaho students, he submitted four names of ‘possible suspects’ in his defense.

Kohberger was planning to accuse a handful of other people of committing the crimes he pleaded guilty to later on. Six days before the former criminology student pled guilty to the 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students, (Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernolde and Ethan Chapin) the Ada County Judge Steven Hippler denied his attempt to introduce new suspects.

The judge described that each of the names introduced were somehow linked to the victims, whether that was through relationships, their distance from the home, familiarity with the layout of the home, etc.

Each of the four individuals accused in Bryan’s defense cooperated fully with police and provided fingerprints as well as DNA. Hippler also wrote that the three friends lived within walking distance of the King Rd. house, which conflicted with the police finding’s that the perpetrator drove a vehicle to and from the crime scene.

None of the ‘suspects’ were named in court filings, but police documents suggest that one of them could be Goncalve’s ex-boyfriend. However, a friend of Goncalves said that Kaylee and her ex had no apparent issues, she even shared her dog with that same ex.

It seems as if Bryan Kohberger was really grasping at straws and his defense team was scrambling down any avenue possible in order to keep Kohberger from seeing prison time. Ultimately, Kohberger pled guilty to all four murders as part of a plea deal and was sentenced to life in prison this past July.

While no other evidence or information has been released as of now, we’ll be keeping our eyes open at the Evidence Room and sharing updates as they come.
